How to build a house in six minutes.

My spousal unit compiled photos from the five years it took us to build our little retirement house near Walton, Oregon. There is a lot more to the story but she is too lazy to update it. It is fun to see the bones of the structure and the slow but sure evolution of our house. We referred to the entire process as the What Year is it? of the However Long it Takes Plan. We moved in last August and are still working on the interior finish. Notice how much of the wood was home-milled. A few Douglas fir trees blew over in a storm several years ago, and now they are a house.

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to check out our bridge book if you’re thinking about a DIY suspension bridge. Here is the link: Building a Small Cable Suspension Bridge with the Cable Locking System

  1. Marvin and Robin: What an excellent history of building your home. Marvin, your attention to detail and hard work on your home is really beautiful to see. I’ve looked at it over and over and marvel at all your skils you had to know to build it ! Thanks for sharing with me. Curtis and Carol Basco
